Postpartum Recipes|Spiced Vanilla Egg Custards

Postpartum puddings

Something that is both sweet and nutritious to soothe you after birth. There is a lot of whisking in this recipe so if you are actually postpartum this is a good one to ask someone to make for you.

Spiced Vanilla Egg Custards.

This recipe is from the brilliant book The First Forty Days by Heng Ou

To make these set custards you’ll add coconut milk (one 400ml tin), vanilla extract (1tsp), cinnamon (1tsp), allspice (1/2tsp) and sugar (50g), to a pan.

Simmer that over a low heat for around five minutes.

Meanwhile whisk five medium egg yolks.

Add to the pan and whisk until it thickens.

Add 1tsp of gelatin powder to help them set.

Poor into ramekins or mugs and chill in the fridge for around four hours.

They are really delicious and the yolks, coconut milk and gelatin make it a perfect postpartum food. Enjoy.

These go really well with the recipe for Spiced Hot Chocolate
