Fourth Trimester Recipes | SPICED Hot Chocolate

This recipe for Spiced Hot Chocolate is taken from the beautiful book ‘Nurture’ by Erica Chidi Cohen.

In your postpartum period you want to be eating warming, nourishing foods to replenish your body.

Hot chocolate is such a comforting, cosy drink. This recipe has a twist in that it has lots of added healthy fats. This is because healthy fats help with providing extra energy and supporting your hormones to balance.

Cacao is packed with magnesium, it can help to calm your nervous system and boost the feel-good brain chemical serotonin.

If you can't get hold of cacao, regular cocoa will work just fine too!

Serves 1

240ml of your choice of milk

1 tablespoon of coconut oil

1 tablespoon organic, grass fed butter or ghee

2 tablespoons raw cacao or organic cocoa powder

1 tablespoon collagen powder (optional)

½ teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey

Warm the milk in a saucepan. Then add the coconut oil, butter, cinnamon and maple syrup or honey. Using a blender or whisk, blend for a minute until frothy. Serve immediately.
